Chronic pain is real pain. But chronic pain is not due to tissue damage in the body. Pain that has no obvious physical cause, or pain that persists long after an injury has healed is caused by the brain.

Chronic pain and other psychophysiologic disorders are caused by stress or trauma, and are driven and perpetuated by emotional factors that you may not be consciously aware of.

I will help you develop your understanding of the mechanisms of chronic pain, and guide you as you find your own unique pathway out of the pain-fear cycle.

Together, we will discover and address the factors that are keeping you stuck.

I will help you explore your emotions and thinking patterns, and learn how to unwind your nervous system to promote recovery.

CHRONIC PAIN JOURNEY

From my early twenties, I suffered with muscle pain and unexplained ‘injuries’ that became increasingly widespread and persistent. I was stuck in a downward spiral, until I discovered the mindbody approach and IFS.

When I learned about the neuroscience of chronic pain, and how stress can cause significant physical symptoms, I knew it applied to me. As I worked on myself using this approach, my symptoms slowly began to fade away.

As an Internal Family Systems coach and registered SIRPA practitioner, I use a somatic mindbody approach to help you find your own path out of pain.

QUESTIONS?

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
  • Sessions are 60 minutes long and cost £60 GBP. I also offer longer sessions by arrangement at an equivalent hourly rate.
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE INITIAL CONSULTATION?

In the first session I explain how I work, and find out a little about your history. It’s also a chance for us to decide if we are a good fit to work together. 

WHAT HAPPENS IN SUBSEQUENT SESSIONS?

In our subsequent sessions we will explore the causes of your pain, and come to understand your emotional triggers. I’ll suggest strategies and techniques you can use to help improve your symptoms. We can also use IFS to help understand the emotional issues that may be keeping 

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

I recommend a minimum of 6 sessions. Some people only need a few sessions to learn some tools, or to get to a point where they feel ready to continue their healing work alone. Others choose to work with me over a longer time period because they want ongoing support with the emotional work. 

HOW OFTEN WILL WE MEET?

We would generally meet weekly, at least for a while, as that tends to be more effective. But if you prefer to meet once every two weeks, I can sometimes offer that flexibility..

IS IT CONFIDENTIAL?

All sessions are confidential and I will not share the content of our sessions with anyone else.

The only time I would need to consider making a disclosure would be if I believed you were at serious risk of harming yourself or another person.
